The Empire State Building is one of the most famous (著名的) buildings in the world. It is in New York City, in the United States. The building is very tall. It has 102 floors (楼层) and stands 1,454 feet high. When it was finished in 1931, it was the tallest building in the world. People were amazed (惊讶) by how big and tall it was. Even today, it is still one of the tallest buildings in New York.

The Empire State Building was built during the Great Depression (大萧条), a time when many people were out of work. But people worked hard to build the Empire State Building, and it was finished in just over a year. It was a big achievement (成就).

Many people from all over the world helped to build it, including workers who were not afraid of heights (高处). They worked high above the ground, sometimes without safety equipment (安全设备) !

The building is made of steel (钢铁), glass (玻璃), and limestone (石灰岩). Its design (设计) is very special. The top of the building has a big antenna (天线), which makes it even taller. At night, the Empire State Building lights up in different colors. Sometimes it is red, green, or blue. The lights change for special holidays (节日) and events (事件).

People visit the Empire State Building every day. There is an observation (观景) deck on the 86th floor where visitors can look out over the city. From there, you can see the whole of New York City, including Central Park and the Statue of Liberty (自由女神像). On a clear day, you can even see up to 80 miles away!

There is a fun story about the Empire State Building. In the movie (电影) "King Kong," a giant (巨大的) gorilla (大猩猩) climbs to the top of the building. The movie made the building even more famous! Today, the Empire State Building is not just a place to work or visit; it is a symbol (象征) of New York and a reminder (提醒) of the hard work and dreams of the people who built it.

So, next time you visit New York, don’t forget to look up at this giant and think about all the history behind it. Maybe you’ll even spot King Kong, though he’s just a movie character (角色)!
