Do you know Tom and Jerry? Tom is a grey-blue house cat, and Jerry is a small brown mouse. They live in the same big house. Tom always tries to catch Jerry, but Jerry is super smart（聪明的） and almost always escapes
Every day, their chase（追逐） game begins. Tom sneaks（悄悄地走） up quietly and then jumps fast! But Jerry runs quickly into a small hole in the wall. Tom’s paws（爪子） are always just a little too slow. Sometimes, Tom runs too fast and crashes（撞上） into the wall, seeing stars around his head!
Tom likes to play tricks（诡计；把戏）. He has tried using mousetraps（捕鼠夹）, or pretending（假装） to sleep to catch Jerry. One time, he even stuck（粘） cheese to the floor! But Jerry is very clever（聪明的）. He always sees through Tom’s plans. In the end, it’s usually Tom who gets hurt. He might get blown up（被炸飞） and turn black all over, or be squished（压扁） flat by a heavy iron
Did you know? Tom and Jerry’s stories are very old. They first came on TV more than seventy years ago, in 1940. Two men named William Hanna and Joseph Barbera created（创造） this funny cat and mouse. Their stories became loved all around the world
The best part is, they almost never talk! They tell their stories with actions（动作） and sounds. The funny piano（钢琴） music, Tom’s loud yells（叫声）, Jerry’s happy giggles（笑声）… You can laugh just by watching them. These lively（生动的） cartoons even won seven special Oscars
After so many years of chasing and fighting, does Tom really hate（讨厌） Jerry? Maybe not. Sometimes, they sit quietly and listen to music together. Sometimes, they work as a team（团队） to deal with（对付） bigger problems. Their strange（奇特的） friendship（友谊） makes people feel warm inside.
