Wall Street

At the southern tip (尖端) of Manhattan Island (岛屿) in New York, there is a short street. It is called Wall Street. Although this street is not long, it is very famous
A long time ago, about 400 years ago, the Dutch (荷兰人) people came here. They built a wall (墙) to protect (保护) themselves from attacks (攻击) by the British (英国人) and others. Later, the British came. They knocked down (打倒) the wall. The wall was gone, but the name "Wall Street" stayed, and it became "Wall Street."
As time passed (随着时间的推移), Wall Street became busier. People started doing business (做生意) here, buying and selling (买卖) all kinds of things. In 1792, 24 merchants (商人) gathered (聚集) under a big tree. They made an agreement (协议). This agreement was very important. It marked (标志) the birth (诞生) of the New York Stock Exchange (纽约证券交易所). From then on (从那时起), people could officially (正式地) buy and sell company stocks (股票).
Today, Wall Street is the center (中心) of world finance (金融). There are big banks (银行) and stock companies here. Businesses come here to raise money (筹集资金) for growth. Ordinary people (普通人) can also buy and sell stocks here and become shareholders (股东) in companies.
When you walk along Wall Street today, you will see old buildings (建筑物) and busy bankers (银行家). At the end of the street, there is a famous bronze (青铜的) bull statue (雕像). Tourists (游客) love to take pictures (拍照) with it. Its nose (鼻子) and horns (角) are shiny (闪亮的) because people believe touching them will bring good luck (好运) and wealth (财富).
The next time you see it on TV, you will know the story of this small street. It's not just a street; it is the heartbeat (脉搏) of modern economic (经济的) power. But remember, it cannot actually (实际上) make money for you. The real treasure (宝藏) is our own wisdom (智慧) and hard work (努力)!
